Hey, I'm scamp, a UK hardcore addict from south-western Germany. I spend most of my life being a Nerd, Programmer, Entrepreneur and shit. I run a development company creating amazing hard- and software - Nerdherrschaft.
For more than 30 years now, I am active inside the Demoscene, a computer art community that has the brightest talents, best coders, graphics artists and music composers, and meets at Demopartys to compete against each other and various categories of art. Inside that community, I have already organized more than 30 events with up to 1,200 participants from all over the globe.
When it comes to music, UK hardcore is what makes the world go round for me. I've been involved here for well over 20 years, and in the early 2000s I have also produced a couple of Happy Hardcore tracks inside demo scene competitions.
As next to no-one is promoting and playing UK Hardcore (as it is called today) anymore,
back in 2020 I've decided it was time to try to learn how to DJ and get people dancing to UK Hardcore again. This involved doing outreach to the dutch Hardcore scene which is still thriving. These guys really need to learn again that hardcore does not need to be just dark, but can also put a smile onto your face.
My DJ sets and mixes typically are rather weird. They usually contain some form of mash-ups, mixing in tracks that are totally outside of the genre. My gear also involves coding a lot of stuff myself instead of using stuff that most DJs would use. This resulted in quite a couple of mixing fuckups until I finally was happy with the setup I had built.
On this page you may watch, listen to and download my DJ Sets. I also may add a couple of my old tracks in the future. And who knows, maybe one day I'll find time to produce some new tracks, too.
While I am not a "professional" DJ, I am more than happy for any invitations to play at Hardcore techno events. I'm not in it for the money, but for the fun.
This is a live set I have played during the "Zenta" party, which took place between Christmas and New Year's eve in Bingen am Rhein.
Zenta is a party of the "Demoscene", a world-wide community of computer artists.
For the party we had managed to secure a location that we never before had been able to get hold of: The old "Palazzo" building in Bingen.
Back in the 90ies this used to be one of the most famous Techno clubs of Germany. But since the city started a cultural war against techno in the early 2000ies, the building has been sitting there mostly unused.
The building is planned to be reconstructed into a hotel. But we got a chance to book it for one final event before that happens.
As you can see in the video, we nerds managed to get a kick-ass Laser and light installation done.
With just 80 participants most people were busy finishing their entries for the Art competitions, there sadly hasn't been much going on on the Dancefloor. But hey, thanks to the recording you may now dance in your living room!
After two years of not having any real big events (due to Corona, obviously) in October 22 our friends at Emergenzy finally had the option to run a proper party again - "The Harder Halls".
On top of this being a well organized event, it had a kick-ass location:
The building used to host the "Palazzo" techno club. Palazzo in 1990s was one of the first venues in Germany playing electronic dance music, and over time became one of the most famous techno clubs in Germany. That's long gone and it has sit there for years unused, but now Emergenzy brought it back to life.
I had the honor to be playing on the second stage. Emergenzy really is a pure dutch Hardcore / Gabber thing, with most acts playing rather dark tunes at 200+ BPM. It was interesting to see how confusing it was for people to hear happy hardcore at 190 BPM instead. You could see that they really did not know how to dance to that.
Still: I had a gigantic amount of fun, and I think this is the best set I've played so far.
My set included some live "interaction" with the audience, which amounted to everybody together shouting a line that's an insult to our home town, Bingen am Rhein, Germany. "Bingen, Bingen, asozial" means "Bingen, Bingen, antisocial". That ambient audio is only included in the video version. The recordings on Soundcloud and the MP3 downloads instead are "clean".
"Berlin, Berlin, Berlin!!1"
This is the UK Hardcore Live DJ Set I've played at the Deadline 2022 Demoparty in Berlin. The set is Berlin-themed and in addition to actual UK Hardcore tracks also contains some confusing Berlin-related tracks. As a bonus, some demoscene tracks are also thrown in. I am pretty happy with that mix and the video recording of it.
This is the video recording from the event, including wonderful live visuals produced by Team210.
The location had so much bass that everything in the hall was shaking - and at a certain point the vibrations caused the video mixer, the video recorder and the monitoring screens all crash/reboot at the same time. Due to this for a couple of minutes the video recording consists of the live visuals only. Who knew that you can have too much bass?
"Love needs a Hammer"
This is a live DJ set I have played at the Nordlicht 2022 Demoparty in Bremen, Germany. Contains mostly UK Hardcore bangers, with some demoscene tunes and some (too much?) silly hiphop thrown in between.
Sadly the location only had a single camera pointing towards the stage, so there isn't that much to see. But I swear that outside of the camera angle, we had people dancing :)
"The Dutch dig Hardcore"
This time I had the opportunity to play at Outline, a tiny but cozy demoparty taking place in the Netherlands. Obviously with the people over there being more used to dutch Hardcore, Gammer and Hardstyle, I was sceptical if I could make people dance. But in the end, it worked out quite nicely.
The camera setup has been pretty basic, so don't expect too much camera work here. However, some nice live visuals done by messy are included.
"Ich bin all das wovor Dich Deine Eltern immer gewarnt haben"
This is a UK Hardcore DJ set I have played at the "Deadline 2021" demoparty (some sort of computer art event). After all these months of lock-down, I finally had been able to play in front of a (small) live audience again. \o/
A pretty nice recording of the event, with proper camera work. Also includes live visuals.
With extreme Anti-Corona measures in July my friends at Emergenzy finally had been able to combine a live-streaming event with having a hand-selected limited amount of real-life Hardcore nuts dancing on-site again. I had the honor to be able to play yet another set for them.
For the first time I had been using my freshly hand-programmed sampler gear which is supposed to enable me to do some beat mash-ups. Still quite a few glitches, but I think this does have some potential for future sets. But yes, I overdid it in regards of adding hip-hop tracks.
Please note that the video includes scamp insulting the dancers via microphone, while the Soundcloud and MP3 versions do not. Also there is a minute of the video missing somewhere in the middle.
"Detours Through 25 Years of Hardcore"
I've played this set for the live stream of the Emergenzy guys in May 2020. As they had to cancel their real-life events due to the Corona outbreak, they instead did some online streaming sessions with various DJs from the Hardcore/Hardtek scene. I've been there for scaring off the kids representing the more cheesy side of Hardcore. With this set social distancing guaranteed.
Sadly the event organized managed to trash the media they had recorded the event video to, so there is no video for this one.
"But tonight, God is a Sofascener DJ"
This is the set I've played at the Revision 2020 Demoparty.
The real/"offline" party had to be cancelled due to the Coronavirus, and instead was moved to an online streaming event.
And so was my DJ set.
This is the recording of the live stream, straight from my living room.
All of my sets are available for streaming on Soundcloud
